Daily Progess – August 19, 2018: Mayhurst was featured in an article in the Daily Progress based on its hosting a three day weekend for parents of children with disabilities.  Mayhurst worked in conjunction with “A Mother’s Rest” a non-profit Foundation to set up the weekend.  The parents decompressed, relaxed, had fun and bonded with other parents with similar experiences.

Virginia Living:  For the 8th year in a row Virginia Living’s editors have selected Mayhurst as one of the Top Wedding Vendors in Virginia for 2019!  The Top Wedding Vendors 2019 is a comprehensive list of hundreds of the highest quality wedding professionals throughout the Commonwealth and appeared in Virginia Living Weddings, a special supplement to the February 2019 issue celebrating the unique tradition of weddings done in grand Virginia style.

National Geographic Channel:  Mayhurst Inn was featured on the National Geographic Channel program “Diggers” beginning in January 2013.  The show http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/diggers/galleries/civil-war-nectar-sector/at/hard-at-work-180365/ highlighted the Archaeology Dig done at Mayhurst in the summer of 2012.  In two short days 271 artifacts were discovered – many of which were left during the Winter of 1863-1864 when over 18,000 confederate troops were encamped on the Mayhurst Plantation.  As Pat, the Innkeeper and owner put it, “18000 guys with no one to pick up after them, they left a lot of stuff around.”

Washingtonian Magazine: February, 2008 “Kindling Romance” by Nancy Bauer Collier – Pages 111-112. A wonderful article about lodging in Maryland and Virginia that declares Mayhurst a “Victorian Beauty” …. “warmed by ornate cornices, arched windows, and a carved cupola…” and that provides a unique atmosphere for guests because Mayhurst has, “A dozen working fireplaces that still warm the parlors and guest rooms….”

PBS Television Production “Road Trip to History”

PBS regularly airs a television program called “Road Trip to History,” produced by Oaktree Productions. In October, 2007 they highlighted Orange, Virginia. Mayhurst was one of the grand historic properties prominently featured. In the program Jack recounts the fascinating and colorful history of what is now Mayhurst and why it was so important to the area and to the Confederacy. There are numerous exterior and interior shots. Copies of the DVD are available at Mayhurst and at the Orange County Visitors Center.

Journey Through Hallowed Ground The Official Guide to Where America Happened:

Written by renowned travel book author, David Edwin Lillard. Mayhurst, a National Registry of Historic Places Home and a Virginia Historic Landmark, is not only listed as a stopping point on the “Journey,” but is also called out by Lillard as “an Italianate wonder of interior design.” Take the Journey!

Virginia Lifestyles Magazine: Virginia Lifesyles Magazine has featured Mayhurst in multiple editions.

  • November-December – 2006 – Christmas and Winter scenes of Mayhurst, with our 6 Ft tall Nutcrackers guarding the front door, were featured in this issue.
  • Wedding Edition – 2007 – Pages 18-19. This special publication featured Mayhurst as one of the premier destination wedding sites in Virginia.
  • September-October 2007 – Pages 22-23. Mayhurst was featured in an article entitled “Haunted Places to Read About…& Visit” that recounted several of the ghost tales associated with Mayhurst. “The beautiful and historic Mayhurst Inn in Orange (central Virginia) has its share of stories of friendly ghosts.” There are plenty of stories – but we’ve never seen or felt any ghosts….yet.

With the bride and bridesmaids in fabulous period hoop dresses, the groom and groomsmen in period costume and the 90% of guests who also dress up, it doesn’t get more authentic than at the historic Mayhurst Inn in Orange, Va. Even the music and dancing are themed. The bride walked down the aisle to “Tara’s Theme” from “Gone With the Wind.”
